Call to Order

Sr. Christina opened the meeting with a prayer and Peter called the meeting to order.

Attendance was taken by the secretary.

Secretary’s report

The minutes of the January SAC meeting were approved.  Peter moved and Debbie seconded for the minutes to be approved.

 

4.

Treasurer’s report

The treasurer’s report was approved.  Peter moved and Debbie seconded for the report to be approved.

~ Thank you to all that participated on the Niagara Chocolate Sale.  Total sales $9679.50, which is a profit of  $4839.75.  SAC will receive $2419 to continue to pay for ongoing programs, field trips, and other events for the students.  $2419 will go toward each participating family to receive a credit of one half of the profits against your family’s tuition.

 

5.

Principal’s report

~D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) will begin on Friday, February 29, 2008.  The theme will be “Reading Under the Big Top”.  On April 10, the program will culminate with a school wide event.  Thank you for your help in working with the teachers to help improve each child’s reading ability.

~March 3 – 7 will be NY State Math Testing for Grade 4, and March 10 – 12 will be NY State Math Testing for Grade 6. 

~The Winter Carnival will take place on March 7 from 5:30 until 8:30.

~March 14 will be the first Art Gallery from 6:00 until 8:00.

~March 17 will be the Annual Lenten Soup Lunch for the students.

~The Middle States Accreditation will take place on April 8, 9, 10 and 11 2008.   Final preparations are being made for their arrival to our school

~Registration for the 2008 – 2009 school year is now taking place.  Please send in all registrations as soon as possible.

Committee Reports

a.       Development: The committee held their kick- off meeting in January.  They are currently working on many tasks including searching for grants and grant opportunities for our school.

b.      Enrichment:  All clubs are going well this session.  Mrs. Caterisano will be starting a new club, which will promote fitness fun.

c.       Fundraising:  The committee continues to meet and works to prepare for the Gala.  The goal of this event is to raise money to benefit the technology of the computer lab in school that our children use every day.   Tickets for “A Springtime in Paris” on March 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Penfield Country Club are now available for purchase.

d.      Public Relations:  The Penfield Post was in our school for Catholic Schools Week and articles will be featured in upcoming editions.  Media will be contacted for coverage for the Gala as well as the Spring Musical. 

e.       Special Events:  Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped to serve ice cream to the students for the ice cream social during Catholic Schools Week.  The WINTER CARNIVAL will be on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 5:30 pm –8:30 pm.  Volunteers are needed for running both game booths and refreshments.  Please contact Janine Barry with questions @218-9865.

f.       Technology:  The committee meet in February.  The DOR will set up two Interwrite boards next week, one in the music room and one in 6W.  The PC’s in the computer lab will have some updating, and then be assessed to determine if any should be replaced. 

g.       Welcoming:  The Coffee Hour on Sunday January 27 was a wonderful gathering to beginning of Catholic Schools Week.    Thank you to all of the parents that assisted during Catholic Schools Week with tours of our school.

2007 – 2008 SAC Meetings (Student Advisory Council) would like to emphasize that ALL MEETINGS are open to any parent or guardian who wishes to attend.  Meetings are held in the school library and are usually on the second Wednesday of each month.  Prior notification of attendance is not necessary, and participation in any discussion is encouraged.  Minutes from the previous meetings will be included in the Wednesday folder for the parents to read.
