Committee Reports

Principal’s report:  The money raised by individual families by selling Niagara Chocolate will be taken off of their August tuition bill.

-       Select students from fourth and fifth grade entered the MCCS Math Fair sponsored by the Diocese last Monday, May 1st at Christ the King.  These students did a wonderful job representing our school.

-       Some of our students entered the New York State” I *MA*GREEN*NATION” competition.  Taylor Eyerman, Lauren Nugent, and Michael Desino were winners in their divisions based on creativity, originality, and content.  They went to Albany on Tuesday, May 9th for an Awards Ceremony and will be on Cable channel 12.  Sixteen Catholic Schools from across the state participated in this competition.  Congratulations on a job well done!

-       St. Joseph’s school will partake in an accreditation process in the fall of 2006.  Mrs. Triplet, Mrs. Tischer and Mrs. Ward will chair the self study process of the accreditation and parent volunteers will co-chair.  More information will be available in the fall of 2006 about this process and how parents, staff and students can be a part of St. Joseph school’s accreditation.

-       One of our Fifth Grade students, Lauren Nugent was in the Democrat and Chronicle for her participation in Penfield Little League.  Our school nurse Mrs. Buell was also recognized in the D&C on Nurse’s Day for a job well done.  Great Job, Mrs. Buell.

-       Our school is participating in a program called Health “E” Access.  This is a grant program through the U of R which will enable our school nurse to work closely with your child's health care provider.  If a child goes to the nurse with a sore throat or a rash for example, the nurse using a special camera can send an image to the child’s pediatrician and a diagnosis can be made without even leaving the school.  A parent meeting will be held to answer all parents’ questions and forms will be handed out for parent permission to be given before any child will participate in this program.  Sister Christina and Mrs. Buell have been fully trained in the use of the equipment used in this program.

-       Van Guard foundation gave St. Joseph's school a $2,000.00 Grant to install voice mail with light activated boxes in each classroom.  Now parents can call school during the school day, ask to leave a message for their child’s teacher and they will be connected to the teacher’s voice mail.  The phone will not ring in the classroom, but a light will show up on the phone box to let the teacher know there is a message waiting to be retrieved at their earliest convenience.  Parents should call the school phone number during regular office hours and one of the secretaries will connect them to the teacher’s voice mail.

Development

-      The planning of the 50th Anniversary of St. Joseph’s school has come to a close.  Invitations have been mailed and all aspects of the event have been planned.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this event possible.   The dinner is on May 20th at 5:00 at the Penfield Country Club.  There will be an open house at St. Joseph School from 3:00 until 4:30 that day.

Enrichment

-       All clubs are coming to a close. Someone is needed to Chair this committee to oversee the fall brochure and accept return forms.   Mrs. Nuijens is coordinating Enrichment until that time.

Fundraising

-       The Plant Sale is up and running thanks to Lori Ioele.  The plant orders were due April 28th and remaining plants will be available for pick up on May 26th between the hours of 1 and 6.  Wambach Farms is supplying the plants at below retail cost to help raise funds for St. Joseph’s school.

Public Relations

-       On Friday May 12th, Maria Sabik and her two daughters Elizabeth and Maria were on NBC News channel 10 to answer questions about the 50th Anniversary of St. Joseph School.  The show aired at 12:00 noon.

-       All events are at a close for the year and volunteers will be contacted over the summer for the Parish Picnic.

-       A meeting was held to do necessary repairs on classroom computers.  A few parts are on order.
