Christina, L. Donofrio, P. Caines, D. Waidl, M. Atkinson, D.Salamone, The meeting was called to order. Sr. Christina opened with a prayer. SAC minutes - May SAC minutes were unanimously approved. Financial Report - The Special Events Committee has requested SAC funds. Committee Reports Principal’s report: Going along with our theme of the year Compassion, Character and Value, St. Joseph’s will recognize students who show compassion towards others thorough out their daily lives. Every child will be recognized. Awards will be displayed on the bulletin board in the main hallway. The students will be able to take their awards home the following month. - October 21st is Grandparents day. Grandparents will be invited to visit their grandchild’s classroom and then go to a prayer service in the church. Grandfriends will be available for those students who do not have a special visitor with them on Grandparents day. Pre-school will have their own age appropriate agenda. - Standardize testing runs through October 19th. - There have been some inquiries about St. Joseph’s school this week from parents of potential students. The parents are looking at second grade, kindergarten, and pre-school. - Progress reports will go out this week to all students. They will go home in the Wednesday envelope the week of October 17th. The next set of progress reports will be mailed home and will only go to select students. - On October 25th, the teachers and staff will have a retirement party for Mrs. Jane Treman. Mrs. Treman, who retired in July, is the former teacher of Pre K 4. Development - The 50th Anniversary of St. Joseph’s school is this year. A committee began meeting last year to plan special events for this occasion. Anyone interested in helping contact Sr. Christina. Enrichment - All clubs are underway and going well. - Someone is needed to Chair this committee to oversee the Spring brochure and accept return forms. Fundraising - A big THANK YOU to Kelley Callahan for taking on the Magazine drive again this year. We surpassed our goal of $45,000, grossing over $50,000. Thanks goes out to all the students, teachers and parents. Way to go St. Joe’s. - We are in need of someone to head the following events: Hockey Game/Silent Auction 2005-2006 school year, and Magazine Drive for the 2006-2007 school year. - If we do not find someone to run the Hockey Game/Silent Auction by the end of the month, we will be unable to have this event. The Hockey Game/Silent Auction raised over $7500.00 last year for St. Joseph School. - Monica Harnischfeger and Doreen Salamone have generously offered to run the Wreath/Poinsettia sale. Volunteers are needed to assist with this sale. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at St. Joseph’s will be contacted to see if they can lend a hand as well. All proceeds will be donated to charity. - Thank you to Lori Ioele for agreeing to run the Plant Sale. Please contact Lori if you can help her with this event. - We will be doing a voluntary “Dinner and Theater” coupon book sale this year. Books cost $14.00 and $7.00 profit goes directly to St. Joe’s school. Students may sell the books if they would like, but are under no obligation to do so. The books will be available the first week in November. The sale will run for two weeks. More information to follow in the Wednesday envelop the last week of October. Monica Harnischfeger will organize this fun raiser. Anyone interested in helping run this fundraiser, please contact Monica. Public Relations - Colleen Giallanza would like all teachers to forward news worthy event information to her. She is working on press releases for the Penny Drive and the Thanksgiving Feast put on by the forth grade. Any other news suggestions please contact Colleen Giallanza. - Sister Christina is looking to borrow a few college sweatshirts. One week before the Kindergarten Informational meeting in December, St. Joseph’s school will run a picture ad in the Democrat and Chronicle. The ad will feature our Kindergarten students wearing the sweatshirts of their prospective future college, showing what a great education at St. Joseph School can do for their future. Special Events - The Halloween Dance planning is well under way. The date of the dance is October 28th from 7 –9. There will be a bottle drive that night to raise money to update St. Joseph’s playground. A new seesaw has been ordered and mulch and paint are needed to update the playground. Mrs. Carey and Mrs. Buell are running this drive. - The Parish/School picnic on Sunday September 18th had low attendance but was thoroughly enjoyed by those that attended. Next year the event will be moved up by one week in the hopes of increasing attendance. - The Ice Cream Social Date has changed. The new date is February 3rd, 2006 - The Spring Carnival date has changed. The new date is March 24th, 2006 - The Special Events committee is in need of someone to lead the Spring Carnival. Any interested party please contact Caroline Kurzweil. - Thank You to Lori Ioele for stepping up to run the Ice Cream Social. We greatly appreciate your efforts. Technology - Technology is looking for an Assistant Chair. If interested contact Marc Atkinson - Parents are reminded to utilize the teachers school notes. Notify@schoolnotes.com. This is a great way to keep informed on what is happening in your child’s class. The teachers will be reminded to use the School Notes as a way to keep students and parents informed. Welcoming - All new families will be teamed up with a host family. That family will keep in touch with the new family throughout the year to answer any questions and be supportive in any way they can. Other Topics and Discussions - The Ministry Fair is Saturday, November 12th and Sunday, November 13th after each mass. This is a great opportunity to learn about all the wonderful ministries at St. Joseph parish and our school ministry. Please come and join us. SAC Openings for the year - Certain positions are still open for the school year …Chair Enrichment, Asst. Chair Enrichment, Asst. Chair Technology, Magazine Drive coordinator, Hockey Auction/Silent Auction Coordinator, Development Chair, Public Relations Asst. Chair, Special Events Spring Carnival Coordinator. In order for SAC to do the best job it can, we need parent support. Contact the school office for more details. 2005-2006 SAC Meetings- SAC would like to emphasize that ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN to any parent or guardian who wishes to attend. Meetings are held in the school library on the second Wednesday of each month. Prior notification of attendance is not necessary, and participation in any discussion in encouraged. Minutes from the previous meetings will be included in the Wednesday folder for parents to read. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday November 9, 2005.
