May SAC Minutes – No changes.  D. Overfield moved to approve; seconded by L. Donofrio; unanimous approval.

Budget Review – Sr. Christina discussed the budget for the current year.  A priority expenditure for this year will be the purchase of manipulatives and teacher manuals associated with the new Saxon Math program.  To date this school year, SAC has also purchased instructional supplies for the art program, physical education program and science programs.  The technology committee submitted several requests for SAC funding.

The SAC survey results indicate a need to better publicize the amount and use of the monies that are raised through SAC-sponsored fundraising.  Sr. Christina and P. Knauf will address this issue throughout the year.

 Committee Reports

Principal’s Report – The school year has successfully begun.  Many new faces have  joined our school community – if you see an unfamiliar face in the hallways, please say hello and introduce yourself.

Standardized testing for grades 2 – 6 will be held the second week of October;  School picture will be taken October 5 and 6.

Toward the middle of October, videos and CDs with lessons in character building will be sent home for each school family to watch and discuss together over the weekend.  Topics addressed on the videos will include respect for differences, respect for self and others, and friendship.  These videos are made available to St. Joseph School through corporate grant monies.

Thank you to Mary Overfield for accumulating, compiling and distributing all the information returned on the volunteer sheets.

Thank you to Donna Caito for offering to compile the family directory.

Development – The 2005-06 school year will be the 50th Anniversary Year for St. Joseph School.  Anyone interested in planning and organizing celebration events for the anniversary should contact Sr. Christina.

Enrichment – The brochure with the fall enrichment activities was included with the Welcome Packet.  A few additional activity notices have been included in the Wednesday envelope.  The fall activities are filling up nicely.  Anyone interested in facilitating an activity in the spring should contact B. Sabik.

Fundraising – Magazine drive is underway.  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with the accounting and prize patrol.  You are truly appreciated.

Public Relations – With the help of the teachers, a master list of “newsworthy” events planned for each grade will be compiled.  Anyone who would like to assist in trying to solicit media attention to these activities should contact L. Donofrio.

The Catholic Courier is actively looking for photographs to include in the weekly bulletin inserts.

Special Events – Parish/school picnic is set for Sunday, September 19.  The Special Events committee is responsible for the music, tent rental, moon bounce rental, dunking booth rental, clown, face painting, food purchases, door prizes, set-up and food deployment.  K. MacFarlane will oversee the children’s games.

The Family Halloween Dance is scheduled for Friday, October 29.  Last year’s DJ, Jimmy C., will be returning, as will the regular booths.  Volunteers will be contacted as the date gets closer.

Technology – Thank you to the IBM families who have donated several new computers to the school.

Website news:  Teacher’s websites are linked to the St. Joseph School website.  If you have any pictures of St. Joseph School events that you would like to see posted on the website, please email the pictures together with a short explanation to webadmin@sjspenfield.com .  The web hosting site has been renewed for another year.

The hot lunch program is now able to be run off-site.  It was learned that Norton Anti-virus software cannot be purchased through NYS Software dollars.

Welcoming – Preschool and Welcoming playdates were successful.  The coffee hour was well received.

Other Topics/Discussion

Textbooks – At the beginning of the school year, certain school districts had denied textbooks for their school district residents attending St. Joseph School.  St. Joseph’s has amicably resolved the textbook issue with the school districts of Fairport, East Rochester and Pittsford.  To date, the Penfield School District has denied the request to supply seven spelling books to the Penfield district children attending first grade at St. Joe’s.  Until such time as Penfield agrees to supply these books, the first grade children must share materials.  Attempts to reconcile this issue have thus far been unsuccessful, but are on-going.

SAC Openings for Next Year Certain SAC positions remain open for this school year.  Anyone interested in the position of  Public Relations Chair, Fundraising Assistant Chair, Enrichment Assistant Chair, Development Assistant Chair or PreK Member-at-Large should contact Sr. Christina Marie or L. Donofrio.

2004-05 SAC Meetings SAC would like to emphasize that ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN to any parent/guardian who wishes to attend.  Prior notification of attendance is NOT necessary and participation in any discussions is encouraged.  The next scheduled meeting is Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 7:00 pm.  Meetings are generally held in the school library.

Adjournment – B. Sabik moved for adjournment; P. Caines seconded.  All approved.
