Congratulations
to Hillary Cox, Megan Palluconi and Allison DeCory who
participated in the 13th Annual I Am GreenNation
competition sponsored by Senator Jim Alesi.
The competition challenges students to identify serious
environmental challenges and propose solutions.
Senator Alesi’s office notified Sr. Christina that the
submission by Hillary, Megan and Allison had been recognized as
especially creative and placed 3rd in the competition.
The girls have been invited to attend a special ceremony in
Albany recognizing their achievement.

Fr.
Kevin has offered to teach religion to the 5th and 6th
graders once a week next year.
Fr. Kevin and Sr. Christina are working together to allow
this to happen.
The
2005-06 school year will be the 50th Anniversary Year
for St. Joseph School. Sr.
Christina will be forming a committee next fall to plan and
organize celebration events for the anniversary.
Anyone interested in being a committee member should
contact Sr. Christina.
Development
– M. Malone will transfer the alumni database to the school’s
computer system before the end of the school year.
Thank
you to Mike Malone for all the time and effort put into Alumni
Development during his tenure.
Through Mike’s efforts, St. Joseph has a solid start at a
database of its alumni.
Enrichment
– Spring activities are winding down.
In order to better facilitate a Fall Activity Booklet, B.
Sabik in encouraging teachers/parent-leaders to think about
potential fall activities now and throughout the summer.
Fundraising
– The Silent Auction generated approximately $9,700 for the
school. A application
for a $1,000 matching grant through WalMart has been made. General feedback has been very positive.
The possibility of establishing an Auction Subcommittee in
the fall is being considered should the event continue.
The
first delivery date for the flower sale is Friday, May 7.
Overall, flower sales have been good.
Public Relations
– Thank you to Donna Dedee Doyle for
her tireless efforts in getting St. Joseph School

and often it’s a matter of timing – you’re timing has been
great and your efforts appreciated.

feedback has been very positive.

position during her term. P.

distributed in a future Wednesday envelope.
Comments will be distributed to the various committee
chairpersons and facilitators for review and consideration.
New
Uniforms – New uniform jumpers have been adopted and will be phased in over a
5-6 year period. When
a new jumper is purchased, it will be in the “new” plaid.
Girls in the 5th and 6th grades will
have the option of wearing a kilt or jumper.
Diocesan
Code of Conduct Information
– A revision has been
made regarding who is required to attend the training workshop and
submit to a background check.
ALL volunteers who will find themselves in the position of
being ALONE with a child or small group of children MUST attend
training and have their background checked (Lunch Mothers, Field
Trip Drivers, etc.). This
revision eliminates the training/approval requirement for many
classroom volunteers (readers, party helpers, helpers for centers,
etc.) and Special Event volunteers.
Volunteers for ANY event occurring after May 31, 2004
will need to be trained and approved.
All questions should be addressed to Sr. Christina Marie.
