The meeting was called to order.  Sr. Christina opened with a prayer.

March SAC Minutes – No changes.  D. Overfield moved to approve; seconded by L. King; unanimous approval.

Budget Review – The current year budget was reviewed.  No significant issues were noted.  There were no requests for SAC funding.

The SAC survey results indicate a need to better publicize the amount and use of the monies that are raised through SAC-sponsored fundraising.  In response, L. King has developed a financial summary for Sr. Christina’s review.  The financial summary will be published in a future Wednesday envelope

 Committee Reports

Principal’s Report – May Crowning was held Wednesday, May 5.  The ceremony was beautiful.  The 6th graders did a wonderful job leading us into a prayerful May.

Congratulations to Hillary Cox, Megan Palluconi and Allison DeCory who participated in the 13th Annual I Am GreenNation competition sponsored by Senator Jim Alesi.  The competition challenges students to identify serious environmental challenges and propose solutions.  Senator Alesi’s office notified Sr. Christina that the submission by Hillary, Megan and Allison had been recognized as especially creative and placed 3rd in the competition.  The girls have been invited to attend a special ceremony in Albany recognizing their achievement.

Kindergarten screening will be held Tuesday, May 18.  The prospective kindergarten students will visit the kindergarten classrooms on Thursday, May 27.  Parents will be receiving an informational letter.  The kindergarten enrollment is now full and names are being accepted to a waiting list.

NYS math testing for the 4th graders will be concluding tomorrow, May 6.  NYS science testing for the 4th graders will be held May 17-19.  DARE graduation will be held Friday, June 4 with Officer Fred.  Teacher Appreciation Day is Friday, June 4.

The Monroe County Catholic Schools Appreciation Dinner will be held Friday, May 7 at Eaglevale.  Mrs. Patricia Wilson will be honored for her 25 years of service to St. Joseph School.  George Hebert and Lisa King will be honored for their service on SAC.  We extend our thanks and congratulations to our honorees.

Fr. Kevin has offered to teach religion to the 5th and 6th graders once a week next year.  Fr. Kevin and Sr. Christina are working together to allow this to happen.

The 2005-06 school year will be the 50th Anniversary Year for St. Joseph School.  Sr. Christina will be forming a committee next fall to plan and organize celebration events for the anniversary.  Anyone interested in being a committee member should contact Sr. Christina.

Development – M. Malone will transfer the alumni database to the school’s computer system before the end of the school year.

Thank you to Mike Malone for all the time and effort put into Alumni Development during his tenure.  Through Mike’s efforts, St. Joseph has a solid start at a database of its alumni.

Enrichment – Spring activities are winding down.  In order to better facilitate a Fall Activity Booklet, B. Sabik in encouraging teachers/parent-leaders to think about potential fall activities now and throughout the summer.

Fundraising – The Silent Auction generated approximately $9,700 for the school.  A application for a $1,000 matching grant through WalMart has been made.  General feedback has been very positive.  The possibility of establishing an Auction Subcommittee in the fall is being considered should the event continue.

The first delivery date for the flower sale is Friday, May 7.  Overall, flower sales have been good.

Public Relations – Thank you to Donna Dedee Doyle for  her tireless efforts in getting St. Joseph School activities and projects coverage in the media.  The media receive many, many requests for publicity every day and often it’s a matter of timing – you’re timing has been great and your efforts appreciated.

Special Events – The Winter Carnival was a success – it ran very smoothly and feedback has been very positive.

Technology – Teachers have been instructed on usage of their web pages.  A link exists on the school website (www.sjspenfield.org) for each teacher by clicking on Classrooms on the school’s Home Page.

Norton Anti-virus subscription has been renewed.

Welcoming – No report.

Other Topics/Discussion

Thank you to George Hebert for the tremendous amount of time and effort put into the position of SAC President during his tenure.  L. Donofrio will assume the position of SAC President.

Thank you to Lisa King for the time and effort she put into the Treasurer position during her term.  P. Knauf will be assuming the position of Treasurer.

SAC Survey The results of all surveys returned have been accumulated and will be distributed in a future Wednesday envelope.  Comments will be distributed to the various committee chairpersons and facilitators for review and consideration.

New Uniforms – New uniform jumpers have been adopted and will be phased in over a 5-6 year period.  When a new jumper is purchased, it will be in the “new” plaid.  Girls in the 5th and 6th grades will have the option of wearing a kilt or jumper.

Diocesan Code of Conduct InformationA revision has been made regarding who is required to attend the training workshop and submit to a background check.  ALL volunteers who will find themselves in the position of being ALONE with a child or small group of children MUST attend training and have their background checked (Lunch Mothers, Field Trip Drivers, etc.).  This revision eliminates the training/approval requirement for many classroom volunteers (readers, party helpers, helpers for centers, etc.) and Special Event volunteers.  Volunteers for ANY event occurring after May 31, 2004 will need to be trained and approved.  All questions should be addressed to Sr. Christina Marie.

SAC Openings for Next Year Certain SAC positions will be opening for next school year.  Anyone interested in the position of Vice Chair, Secretary, Development Chair should contact Sr. Christina Marie or L. Donofrio.
