Principal’s Report – The Diocesan Code of Conduct mandates that all parent volunteers participate in a training session and have a background check.  This requirement is for ALL parent volunteers including, but not limited to:  Room Mothers, Field Trip Drivers, Lunch Mothers, Classroom Volunteers (party helpers, classroom/library readers, helpers for centers, etc.), Magazine Drive Prize Patrol, volunteers at Special Events (Picnic, Halloween Dance, Winter Carnival, Ice Cream Social), Extracurricular Activity Facilitators.  Sr. Christina will facilitate a training meeting in the school gym on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 7:00pm. to begin this process.  Volunteers for ANY event occurring after May 31, 2004 will need to be trained and approved.  Any questions regarding this procedure should be addressed to Sr. Christina.

The blessing and donation of the quilts made by the 3rd/6th graders will be held on Monday, March 15.  The Lenten soup lunch will be held Monday, March 15 at lunchtime.  St. Joseph Day prayer service will be held Friday, March 19 at 1:00 in the church.  D.E.A.R. will conclude Wednesday, March 24.  The science fair will be held Thursday, March 25 in the gym.  The Winter Carnival will be held Friday evening, March 26 in the gym.  The drama club will present their play on April 7.

Enrollment for next school year is good.  There are currently 4 openings for Kindergarten.  Both preschool classes are full.

Sr. Christina is asking for two volunteers to represent St. Joseph’s at the annual Catholic School golf tournament.  Profits from this event are used for tuition assistance – a percentage of which goes to St. Joseph families.  Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Sr. Christina.

The NCEA conference will be held in Boston the week of April 12-16.  Nine St. Joseph teachers will be attending.

Development – No report.

Enrichment – The spring semester activities are running smoothly.

Fundraising – The Silent Auction/Amerk Alumni Hockey Game was held on Saturday, March 6.  The final accounting for the event will be completed shortly.  Feedback from Amerks/Media players and attendees was very positive.  Thank you to the players for their continued support of this event.  Thanks also go to Dane Overfield for developing a spreadsheet that made finalizing and tallying winners at the end of the evening more efficient.

Public Relations – Beginning April 1, the Catholic Courier will be changing from a weekly publication to a monthly publication.

 Welcoming – No report.

Other Topics/Discussion

Safety/Security – Sr. Christina has contacted the Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding educating parents how to teach/remind their children about stranger danger.  As he has done in the past, Officer Fred will talk to the children in their individual classrooms.

The buddy system for students in the hallways has been re-emphasized.  This has been the rule since last school year, however, recently, it had not been being strictly enforced.  It is merely a safety measure, not the result of any specific occurrence.

As a result of the events of 9/11, from time to time, schools, including St. Joseph’s, are asked by the Diocese and the Sheriff’s Department to participate in practice emergency procedures.  One such emergency procedure is a building lock-down where all entrances and egresses from the school building are locked.  A practice of the lock-down procedures was done at St. Joseph School during the week of March 1st.

SAC Survey The annual survey of parents is being revised for distribution next week.  Results should be tallied and distributed in May.

SAC Opening for Next Year Certain SAC positions will be opening for next school year.  Anyone interested in the position of Vice Chair, Secretary, Development Chair should contact Sr. Christina Marie, G. Hebert or L. Donofrio.

2003-04 SAC Meetings SAC would like to emphasize that ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN to any parent/guardian who wishes to attend.  Prior notification of attendance is NOT necessary and participation in any discussions is encouraged.  The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 7:00 pm.  Meetings are generally held in either Meeting Room 1 or the school library depending on room availability.

Adjournment – L. King moved for adjournment; D. Overfield seconded.  All approved.
