June SAC Minutes – No changes.  L. King moved to approve; seconded by D. Overfield; unanimous approval.

Budget Review – Year-to-date expenses were discussed and compared to budgeted amount.  The Monroe County Catholic Schools provide $3,200 per school for instructional supplies annually.  Additionally, $57.29/child is provided for books from the public school districts.  Monies raised by SAC supplement these funds, allowing for the purchase of additional classroom supplies, art supplies and various supplemental instructional supplies.

The bulletin boards have been purchased for the Penfield Public Library.  Artwork by St. Joseph students will be displayed on these boards.  In the future, if for some reason, artwork will no longer be displayed at the library, the boards will be returned to St. Joseph School.

Committee Reports

Principal’s Report – Progress reports will be issued to students the week of October 13, 2003.  Students doing satisfactory work will not receive a progress report.  On November 19 and 20, students in the 5th grade will be taking the NYS Social Studies Test.

Baked food sales have been replaced with pizza lunches as a method of raising money for the classes to used for field trips, etc.  It is expected that these lunches will raise approximately $300 per grade over the course of the year.

Fr. Kevin has been receiving email to keep him up to date with the goings-on at St. Joseph School.  Fr. Kevin will be returning from sabbatical in December.  Johan Engstrom has been eating lunch with the 6th graders.  Johan is in charge of the Youth Ministry program at St. Joe’s.

Development – No report.

Enrichment – Ten different activities have been offered to date.  Approximately 120 children are participating.  Two offerings may be cancelled due to lack of interest.  Late registrations have been an issue as in many cases, supplies must be purchased based on the number of children registered.  In the future, deadlines must be adhered to regarding registration.  All registrations should be sent to the office, not to the individual offering the course.

Fundraising – The magazine drive has been successfully completed.  K. Callahan is awaiting the final bill from QSP.

K. Callahan and M. Lorenzo to meet with K. Keenahan before month end to discuss Hockey Game/Silent Auction.  It is hoped an open meeting will be scheduled in early November for all interested volunteers.

Public Relations – Receipt of the Mobil/Exxon grant of $500 was publicized.

Special Events – All volunteers for the Halloween Family dance (formerly, the Sock Hop) have been contacted.  The dance is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2003 from 7-9pm.  All reservations should be in by Wednesday, October 22.

Technology – Five new computers for the computer room have been configured.  These will replace four older PCs.  The replaced PCs will be used to add additional PCs to the library and to serve as replacements for some older classroom machines.  One PC has been added to the back room of the office and the school network.  This machine will be available to office staff and school volunteers.  A business-class HP Color Inkjet printer has been added to the computer room.  A network printer has been installed in the Religious Education room.  Any school machines can be configured to print to either of these printers by contacting Mrs. Luddington or D. Overfield.  All students in Grades 3-6 have received user accounts.

Software for programming Lego Robotics will be installed on the library PCs for use by Project Discovery.  The Lego Robotics software was purchased using the Kodak Dollars-for-Doers grant money received.

Technology Night will be held in conjunction with the Open House night at St. Joe’s during Catholic Schools Week.  Students will display projects in the computer room.  Educational software and/or hardware vendors will be set up in the hallway outside the computer room.

Welcoming – No report.

Other Topics/Discussion

PreK Member-at-Large Positions – D. Waidl has accepted one of the PreK Member-at-Large positions for the 2003-04 school year.  Anyone interested in the other at-large position is asked to contact Sr. Christina or G. Hebert.

2003-04 SAC Meetings – The December SAC meeting has been cancelled.  SAC would like to emphasize that ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN to any parent/guardian who wishes to attend.  Prior notification of attendance is NOT necessary and participation in any discussions is encouraged.  The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 7:00 pm.  Meetings are generally held in either Meeting Room 1 or the school library depending on room availability.

Adjournment – L. Donofrio moved for adjournment; L. King seconded.  All approved.
