School Advisory Council
Letter from Lynne J. Kirst, Chairperson of the School Advisory Council (SAC)
Dear St. Joseph’s School Community:
At the end of my Dad’s life, he didn’t have money to leave to his children and grandchildren – and that really bothered him. As one of his six children, I sat him down and said: “Dad, you and Mom educated six children in Catholic schools – elementary through high school, and 5 of us went to Catholic colleges. You showed us how to pray before every meal, in the morning and every night. You lead the rosary on car trips and you continued to kindly ask on Sunday afternoons, after we moved away from home, “how was Mass this morning? You taught us through example, how to give back to our communities, our country and our families.” Dad left a very rich legacy to us and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
From the first baptism in 1947, until the “baby’s” baptism in 1967, our Mom and Dad sacrificed and prioritized to provide – a Catholic education for all of their children.
Times have changed from the pre-Vatican II Council when Catholic schools were thriving in the United States.
We invite to you reflect on the changes and to reflect on your commitment to faith formation through St. Joseph’s School. What is your story in 2011? Why do you value a Catholic education?
